my process

MIGRATORS

These sculptures have been a gradual inspired process which I infused with strong intention to hold light, dreams, challenges, hopes, sacrifices, defeats - allowing the ability to transmit and receive energy. To enrich the experience, I added the scent and the sound of earth and then nature itself.

ARTifacts

I am taken by the many ‘pieces’ that lay in the streets having lived their own stories. Pieces abondoned/discarded and yet have their own voice and speak to me.
{A PIECE OF TILE}…perhaps blown off a roof, from an immigrant that made his or her way here so many years ago with a pocket full of dreams.
{BURNT BICYCLE TIRE}left to the elements, chained to a tree, after a chase or a desperate soul not understanding how to ask for help.
{STACK OF NY FASHION LABELS}…was it a bad idea and nothing sold, or the season is over and it is now so ‘yesterday’?

Now they encrypt another story.

COLLAPSING THE TIMELINES

I was really called to these old patterns. In the process of deconstructing them, I gave myself permission to replicate nature over time. These pieces are a visual expression and exploration reminiscent of an old Atelier — of times forgotten.

LOST PUZZLE PIECES

Let’s not take ourselves too seriously. I included this box of old puzzle pieces that I found humour in…we can choose to not take the lost bits too seriously and therefore nail those suckers down - they are going nowhere. Puzzle pieces personified to accentuate the humour within the journey — laughing at us and us hopefully laughing at life.

LOST PUZZLE PIECES

B O N E S

From ancient rituals to modern interpretations, these sculptural  bowls and standing pieces invite the viewer to contemplate the timeless stories embedded in what remains. Through art, science, and anthropology, we unravel the threads of humanity's collective narrative, exploring themes of mortality, identity, and the interconnectedness of all life. Bones whisper a tale of our past and what now remains or has resurfaced - resembling in this case, artifacts after a dig. The bones of the earth - of life. Bones carry structure, memory, vitality and strength.

The standing pieces -  remnants from some obscure creature or creatures  that roamed the earth at one time OR I would lay several larger bones in a pile.

I have exhibited my sculptural bowls on a bench covered in player piano musical paper. In a larger space, where I can expand the setting, I would love to place the sculptural bowls at different levels and offer them some autonomy. The larger pieces standing  amongst them.

If time permits I hope to add charred pieces of wood mixed with other materials.

M a t e r i a l s

I mix recycled paper, plaster, lime, horse hair, metal, fabrics paper nor any objects that call to me.

Sculptural bowl dimensions: 19 - 48 cm diameter x 7 - 10 cm

Free standing pieces: 40 - 70 cm diameter x 10 cm

A close and personal connection of what it takes to navigate life - the physical journey but more importantly the inner journey.

“The Migrators” was a solo show where I incorporated sculptural works with music and the element of storytelling to create an immersive and engaging experience, yet full of mystery and personal discovery for the viewer.

“The Migrators” collection visualizes the theme of migration where pieces placed on the ground represent the people who migrate - the inner journey and the physical journey - the intriguing stories they carry with them. The figures are faceless, thus, signaling the universality of the theme where migrators are not defined by their body type, skin color or age, but all going through a similar experience of adjusting to a new place or finding a better life.

My second series, the Artifacts, continues the story of the Migrators as all objects represented on the wall sculptures were collected and left behind by mysterious people and their stories. Stories that are lost. Interpretations are recreated  based on my  life experience and imagination, but leaving the viewer to look at the work  and stories hidden behind the presented mementos.

“We are invited by the music that circles us to be deeply present to our journey and the worlds we create. This invitation is always here waiting for us.”  CHĀCHĀ.
